Ravio and lumi are often named in the same breath, and they answer different questions. This page sets out which question each one answers, where the data comes from, what each leaves out, and when you would use one, the other, or both.
lumi benchmarks everything in reward except base salary. It is not a compensation or salary benchmarking tool, and this page does not compare pay data: on pay levels, Ravio and lumi are not alternatives, because lumi does not offer them.
The short answer
- If your question is what to pay a role, Ravio benchmarks total compensation (base salary, equity, variable pay and benefits) from data it says is sourced directly from the HR systems of 1,800+ companies.
- If your question is how your reward policy and benefits compare with UK organisations like yours, with the sample size on every figure, lumi answers that and does not answer the first.
- The two sit side by side: a compensation source for pay, a peer benchmark for the rest of the package.

What Ravio does
Ravio describes itself as a compensation platform: benchmarks, salary bands and pay equity analysis in one tool. It says its benchmark data is "sourced directly from the HR systems of 1,800+ companies", kept in sync through 60+ HRIS integrations, and covers 300+ roles in 50+ countries; all of it, it says, passes verification by its in-house benchmarking experts and data science team. Beyond base salary it benchmarks equity, variable pay (on-target earnings and percentage of base) and 60+ benefits, and its pay equity module includes reporting for the EU Pay Transparency Directive. You can search three benchmarks free.
Pricing depends on company size, the modules chosen and market data needs; Ravio says pricing for a 250-person company starts at £5,400 a year.

Good for: companies that want pay benchmarks inside the tool they use to build salary bands, run pay reviews and check pay equity, across several countries. Its published customer stories are mostly technology companies.
Limits: the pages we read do not say how many of the 1,800+ companies are in the UK, or the smallest sample a benchmark is shown on. Its benefits coverage is insight into 60+ benefits; the pages we read do not describe placing a whole reward policy, from pension design to leave and family policy, against a UK peer group.
What lumi does
lumi is a UK-only member community. Each member answers a common question set about its own reward policy and structure, and in return sees how its answers compare with a peer group of other UK organisations: all peers, its sector, or its size band. Coverage runs across eight areas of reward. Every figure carries the number of organisations behind it, and nothing is shown where fewer than three employers answered.
Good for: UK employers who want one view of their whole package against organisations like them, with the evidence behind every figure; reward teams who need to take a case to a board with the sample size on it.
Limits:
- lumi does not benchmark base salary levels. That is deliberate. You will need a pay data source alongside it.
- It is UK only.
- It presents where you sit and what the trade-offs are. It does not tell you what to do: we flag, you decide.
- Results appear only where enough organisations have answered; smaller bases are suppressed.
- Members contribute their own data, which takes time at the outset. A guided session for the first submission is optional.
Where each fits
- Pay levels and pay ranges: Ravio, or another compensation source. lumi has none.
- Policy and benefits against a UK peer group: lumi.
- The whole package in one board paper: lumi, with a compensation source beside it.
Common questions
Does lumi replace Ravio? No. lumi does not provide compensation data. It benchmarks reward policy and benefits against a UK peer group. Ravio covers benefits too, with insight into 60+ benefits alongside its pay data; lumi goes across the whole of reward policy, metric by metric, with the sample size on every figure.
Can I use both? Yes. A compensation source for pay, a peer benchmark for the rest of the package. lumi exports every figure with its source, so the two sit side by side.
Does lumi include salary data? No. lumi covers reward policy and structure only.
